Angelo Maione

Angelo Maione, age 89, of Glenshaw passed peacefully at home on Sunday July 14, 2024. Beloved husband of the late Julia (Vozza) Maione; loving father of Pasquale (Leslie) Maione, Marylinn (late Joel Clickner) Maione, Angelo (Michelle) Maione, and Roberto Maione; Proud Nonno and Pap of Matthew (Adrianna), Angela (Brandon), Cori, Cameron, Nicholas, and Angelo; dear Big Nonno of Sofia; brother of Giuseppi, Anna, Edda, and Idalo; also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. Angelo was born in the Calabrian mountains in the small town of Terrati, Cosenza. There, he met and married the love of his life, Julia. In 1962 he came to America to be with her and start their family. Angelo's hands were always busy and he had many skills. He took great pride in his work as a stonemason, much of which still stands all over the city of Pittsburgh. No household project was too big or too small, whether putting up a new roof or building a kitchen from scratch. He brought many traditions from the old country that he passed on to his family. He made his own wine, salami, sopressata, and cheese. His gardens were always the envy of the neighborhood. Until the last years of his life, he maintained a beautiful vegetable garden, several fruit trees, grape vines, and many flowers. Roses that he planted for Julia decades ago are still blooming in front of their old house in Morningside. He was quiet by nature, but if you were close to him, you would likely be the target of his many pranks or good-natured ribbing. The greatest joy of Angelo's life came from his grandchildren. He loved playing with them and sneaking them treats before dinner. He was a wonderful Nonno and Pap and will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends. Friends will be received on Wednesday from 3:00 to 8:00 PM at the Bock Funeral Home, Ltd., 1500 Mt. Royal Blvd., Glenshaw. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Matthew Parish, St. Bonaventure Church, Glenshaw, on Thursday at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Shaler/Hampton EMS.
