C. Andrew "Andy" Miller

C. Andrew (Andy) Miller, age 96, passed away peacefully at his home in Allison Park, PA, on February 14, 2023 after a lengthy decline. Beloved husband of the late LaVerne (McGee) Miller and proud father of Andy (Fairfax, VA), Kristen (Washington, DC) and Coby (Allison Park, PA). Andy was born in Pittsburgh, PA on April 24, 1926 and grew up in East Liberty. After graduating from Peabody High School in 1943, he attended Grove City College. Enlistment in the U.S. Navy caused him to continue his education first at Middlebury College in Vermont and then Tufts College in Boston. While attending Tufts, he met LaVerne, who had been discharged in Boston from the US Coast Guard. She became his lifelong partner. Their first stop after graduation was Saco, Maine. Having a love for travel and exploration, and not content to stay in one place for too long, they lived in Montana, Michigan, Illinois, Pennsylvania, and New York. Most of those moves were the result of following his career with the Turner Construction Company. It was during his tenure as general manager of the Pittsburgh office of Turner that he helped transform the Pittsburgh skyline with construction of One Oxford Center, One Mellon Bank Center, the National Steel Building, and many other significant buildings around the metro area. Andy enjoyed building things, whether it was a construction project, boat, furniture or a horse farm. It was on his farm in Allison Park that he raised prize-winning Arabian horses. The family plans to have a memorial service in the Pittsburgh at a future date. Andy is to be inurned next to LaVerne at Arlington National Cemetery. This service will be for family and close friends only.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to your favorite animal, child, or elder care charity. Arr. by Bock Funeral Home, Ltd. Glenshaw.
