Carol Jean Johnson Hinds, born December 31, 1934 and passed on Wednesday, April 16, 2025. Born in Pinto, Md to J. Robert and Viola Yoder Johnson, she lived most of her adult life in Allison Park, PA where she died peacefully at home. She was predeceased by her parents and her brother Robert N. and sister-in-law Mary Johnson as well as her ex-husband and the father of her children, Lynn B. Hinds. Carol lived in Pinto and Cumberland Maryland as a child. She attended Eastern Mennonite High School in Harrisonburg, Virginia, Goshen College, Goshen Indiana and Bob Jones University in Greenville South Carolina. She earned her Master of Science degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in Home Economics. She worked for the Pittsburgh Public Schools as both a teacher and administrator for thirty years and recently celebrated twenty years of retirement. She was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Allison Park. Her strong Christian faith guided her throughout her life, as did her identity as a teacher. She was a loving Mother, Aunt, Grandmother and Great Grandmother as well as a friend and mentor to many. She is survived by: Her daughter Shelly Lear and her husband Jim, Son Jeff Hinds and his wife Lynn Campbell and her son and caregiver Robb. Her Grandsons Jamey and Luke (Kelly Jo Reuter) Hinds, and her Great Grandchildren Alyssa Orosz and Levi Mitchell-Hinds. Her Nieces and Nephews and their spouses Paul and Brenda Johnson, Sharon and Stuart Lamont, Steve and Dorothy Wiebe-Johnson, Tim and Carol Martin Johnson, Cindy and Duncan Nutter, Cheryl and Ron Cummings and John and Nancy Johnson. She also had many great nieces and nephews and other extended family members who will miss her greatly. Thanks to the kind and compassionate care by the staff at Commonwealth Hospice. Services are being managed by Bock Funeral Home, 1500 Mt. Royal Blvd., Glenshaw, PA, 15116 where friends will be received from 2:00 to 6:00 PM on Friday April, 18th with an informal Memorial service at the Funeral Home at 6:00 PM and by Scarpelli Funeral Home, 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, Md. Friends will be received for visitation at the Pinto Mennonite Church from 10-11 a.m. Monday April 21st with funeral to follow at 11:00. Interment at the Pinto Mennonite Cemetery following the funeral. All are invited to attend at lunch at the church following the internment. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in mom’s name to the EmmaMunsonFoundation, St. Paul’s United Methodist Church or the Pinto Mennonite Church.
