Charles (Chuck) P. Balkey of Shaler Township, on July 5, 2023 passed away peacefully at home. Born August 28, 1933, the eldest son of Charles & Rosemarie (Dolly) Balkey. He is survived by brother Robert (Martha) Balkey, sisters Joan (the late Leonard) Pilarski and the late Marie (Robert) Vita. Brother-in-law to Alvin (the late Margie) Stoker. Devoted husband of 59 years to Judy (Stoker) Balkey. Dedicated father to Phil (Lori Timmons), Eddie (Alisa), Larry (Jean) and Kathy (Ascher). Loving grandfather of Ally, Sarah, Meghan, Adam, Maddie, Julius, Lilli, Torrey and Jacob. A wonderful uncle to many nieces and nephews as well as many cousins proud to call him friend. A graduate of North Catholic High School (class of ‘51) and The University of Pittsburgh, served in the US Army during the Korean War with honorable discharge (1953-1955), employed at Highmark for 32 years and an active member of St. Bonaventure Parish for 59 years, including the Men’s Club, the bowling league and many volunteer services. Chuck and Judy never missed 8:30 am mass prior to the pandemic. In addition, he spent the years surrounded by so many lifelong friends and family bowling, going on cruises and looked forward to events and traditions being with all he loved. His passion of ALL Pittsburgh Sports occupied his days. His greatest joy, for 15 years, he put his heart and soul into coaching his sons and their childhood, lifelong friends on the Dehaven Little League and Shaler Soccer Associations. Whether on the field or back at the Balkey house, all knew Chuck’s competitive spirit, unique patience and sense of humor, above all else. Whether you called him Charles, Chuck, Charlie, Chas or Chooch, you knew you could call him a good man. Faith, family, then self is how Chuck lived every day of his fulfilled life. Family and friends will be received on Sunday from 1-3 PM and 5-7 PM at Bock Funeral Home, 1500 Mt. Royal Boulevard, Glenshaw. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday at 10:00 AM in St. Matthew Parish, St. Bonaventure Church, Glenshaw. EVERYONE PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH. Donations in Chuck’s memory can be made to Fresenius Kidney Care of Shaler, 800 Butler Street, Shaler Plaza, Pittsburgh, PA. 15223. Thank you for your tremendous care.
