Charles “Buzz” Shane, 79, formerly of Etna/Shaler, PA, passed away peacefully on Monday August 19, 2024, at his home in Murrells Inlet, SC, with his family by his side. He was born in Pittsburgh, PA, and graduated from Etna High School in 1963 and Duquesne University in 1967. He earned his Master’s degree from USC. He married his high school sweetheart, Joyce (Kanavy) of Etna, in 1966. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1968, serving in Colorado, Germany, Vermont, Pennsylvania, and Alabama, where he retired as a Major in 1988. He then served as the assistant principal, athletic director, and basketball coach for St. Jude High School in Montgomery, Alabama. After moving back to Pittsburgh in 1993, he worked for the PA Department of Corrections at SCI Waynesburg and Pittsburgh as the school's principal until his second retirement in 2003. Buzz was an avid sports fan who loved his hometown teams. He would watch television or listen to the radio only if it was sports-related. But his love of the beach and warm weather drew him to SC, where he lived for the past 10 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce, of 41 years, and his son, Kenneth. He is survived by his son, Scott (Debra), his grandchildren, Julia and Kenneth, whom he adored more than anything, and his brother, Michael (Maureen). He is also survived by niece Tracey (Paul) Williams, nephew Bradley (April) Lechwar, and great-nieces/nephews Chase Tunstall, Logan Williams, Kanavy and Sullivan Lechwar. Friends will be received Tuesday from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the Bock Funeral Home, Ltd. 1500 Mount Royal Blvd. Glenshaw. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated St. Matthews Parish, All Saints Church, Etna on Wednesday at 10:00 AM
