Jean Cook

March 4, 1931 — July 31, 2022

Jean McMaster Dickey Cook, it is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Jean D. Cook, on Sunday July 31, 2022. Jean was born in Pittsburgh, PA, on March 4, 1931, to her parents Kathryn Elizabeth (McMaster) and Robert William Dickey who predeceased her. Jean spent her entire life focused on nurturing her family and friends. She would often say that being a mother was a blessing, and that she could not have imagined doing anything else. Jean was also a very loving, loyal, and dedicated friend to many throughout her lifetime. She made it a point to always acknowledge birthdays, anniversaries, and many other special occasions by sending cards and letters to those she held dear. Jean was also an avid reader, writer, jewelry connoisseur and book collector. She even wrote a poem about books when she was 12 years old that would take a reader into her world where stories and books were her escape and true love.  Throughout her lifetime, she served on many church-related boards and committees in addition to serving on the Board of the Glenshaw Public Library in Glenshaw, PA. Jean’s three children and her beloved husband, Clayton, were the most important people to her. Her dedication to her family was unparalleled, and those she leaves behind are eternally grateful for her unconditional love. Jean is survived by her daughter, Dr Melanie J. Cook, and her son, Steven M. Cook (Corinne), and her two beloved granddaughters Ava and Catherine Cook. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Jean was predeceased by her husband, Clayton, her son Robert, her sister Roberta Holihan, and her daughter-in-law, Kelly Simons. A memorial service, conducted by Rev. Susan Meyer, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday August 26, 2022, at Glenshaw Valley Presbyterian Church, 1520 Butler Plank Rd., Glenshaw, PA 15116. Those who wish to make a contribution in memory of Jean, please donate to your local library.
