Jeanne (Beaumont) Winner “Our greatest responsibility is to be good ancestors.” This quote by Jonas Salk, known for the development of the Salk polio vaccine, fits Jeanne (Beaumont) Winner to a T! She was a much beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, friend, and AUNT! She passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Wednesday, December 27, 2023 near Philadelphia, where she had been living. Jeanne was born in Sewickley, PA in October of 1930 and was the second of Tom and Madaline Beaumont’s eight children. Her family moved to San Antonio, in rural, central Florida in 1943 (She is the last of the “First Five.”) She graduated from Holy Name Academy in 1948. After high school, she attended Saint Vincent School of Nursing in Jacksonville, FL, graduating in 1951. Sewickley called to her and she moved back and accepted a nursing position at the DT Watson Home in nearby Leetsdale, where she worked alongside Jonas Salk administering the polio vaccine to Pittsburgh schoolchildren. She met her husband of 67 years, Tom, who was a student at the Watson School of Physiatrics in 1953. They married in 1955 and eventually moved to Glenshaw. They were founding members of Saint Bonaventure Parish. Jeanne was active in the parish including serving on the Parish Council. Many lifelong friendships were made in the parish community. Their six children all attended St. Bonaventure School. Jeanne participated in community theater with the Glenshaw Players. She also enjoyed many hours at Kiwanis pool with her family and friends. Jeanne returned to nursing work at Saint Francis General Hospital, where she worked until retirement. Jeanne continued her care for others with what her family referred to as her “telephone ministry”. Being both a breast cancer and post-partum depression survivor she felt strongly about assisting and educating others. She often said: once a nurse, always a nurse. Predeceased by her husband Tom, and her newborn triplets Anne, Beaumont, and Catherine. She is survived by her children, Tom III (EmiJo), Mary (Corey Swarthout), Robert, Elizabeth, Kathleen (John) Sharkey, and Patricia (Vaughan) Harry. Also survived by her beloved youngest sister Madeline; her grandchildren: Chris Winner, Kelly Winner, Jack Sharkey, Melissa Winner, Matt Winner, Elisabeth Sharkey, Andrew Sharkey, Alex Honeycutt, Ella Harry and Vaughan Harry. Great-grandchildren: Ben Walker; Kylie Winner; and Avery Winner, and many nieces and nephews. Jeanne LOVED ice cream, Hershey Bars, Guiding Light and Law and Order. Friends will be received on Tuesday, January 2nd, 5-8 PM at Bock Funeral Home, Ltd. 1500 Mount Royal Blvd. Glenshaw. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Saint Bonaventure Church, St. Matthew Parish Glenshaw on Wednesday, January 3rd at 10 AM. Interment to follow at Christ the Redeemer Catholic Cemetery, Ross Township. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to The American Cancer Society and/or The Dementia Society of America (dementiasociety.org)
