On Tuesday, February 28, 2023, John B. Stack, Jr., loving husband and father, passed away at the age of 77. John was born on June 27, 1945, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to John, Sr. and Lois (Farrell) Stack. John graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1963. Pursuing a lifelong love of aviation, he graduated from the Humboldt Institute Airline Secretarial School in 1964, after which he moved to New York City to work for National Airlines. In 1965, John was drafted into the Army, completing basic training at Fort Lewis, Washington before serving in Vietnam with the 4th Infantry Division, A Battery 6th Battalion, 29th Field Artillery. Upon returning from Vietnam, he married Arlene Kelly on April 12, 1969. They welcomed their daughter, Susan Pampush (Tom), on February 16, 1971. John enjoyed a 30-year career with Trans World Airlines, starting on the reservation desk in Pittsburgh, then as Field Manager in St. Louis, and eventually rising to Station Manager in Toledo, Cleveland and Pittsburgh, from where he managed JFK, Dulles and other terminals for TWA. Never one to rest, after retirement John volunteered for countless causes, worked for Rynn’s Luggage, served as an election poll worker, became a local board member at the Estelle S. Campbell Boys & Girls Club in Lawrenceville, served as a proud Member of VFW Post 9199 where he served as Commander for nearly a decade, and recently spent summers working at Fox Chapel Golf Club. John loved to travel. He always spoke fondly of his trips to England, Ireland and Portugal with his daughter, Susan, and his trips to numerous National Parks with Arlene. Just last summer, John and Arlene stayed at their favorite hotel, the El Tovar, overlooking the Grand Canyon, before making their first ever trip to Montana. Most of all, John was known for his intelligence, kindness and willingness to help. John was preceded in death by his father, John, Sr., his mother, Lois, and his sister Lois Ann Skaugen (Tom). He is survived by his wife Arlene, his daughter, Susan Pampush (Tom), and several sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, cousins, nieces, and nephews. The family would like to thank the Hospice Team at Canterbury Place for their compassionate care. Family and friends will be received from 1 to 8 PM on Thursday March 2, 2023, at the Bock Funeral Home, Ltd. 1500 Mount Royal Blvd., Glenshaw.
