Kathleen “Kay” Ann Mausteller (Tahaney) of Pittsburgh, PA died on Tuesday, June 27nd, 2023 at age 85. She was born September 15, 1937, the daughter of John Patrick Tahaney and Marion Elizabeth (McDermott) Tahaney. She is preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Jacqueline (Sr. Donna Marie) and Marilyn (Lah), and her husband William P. Mausteller. She is survived by her two children Elizabeth A. Mausteller and William D. Mausteller, daughter-in-law Leslie Whetstine Mausteller, her beloved granddaughter Matilda G. Mausteller, and nieces and nephews Karen Lah, Maureen Lah, John Lah, Thomas Lah, Robert Lah, and Susan Lewis. She also has a large and diverse extended family. Kay never met a child she didn’t like, a book she didn’t want to read, or a cause too lost to support as long as she believed in it. She loved weak tea, a good book, children to care about, visiting loved ones, and a good story… especially if it produced a laugh. She graduated from Saint Rafael High School Class of 1955. Her graduation year biography notes that she dislikes arguments, and the steadfast application of her household rules: “No fighting, no tattling” can be attested to by countless children over the decades. Kay was a secretary at the Pittsburgh Press where she met her husband and they married on August 1st, 1970. After raising her children, she returned to employment at the library of Shady Side Academy in Fox Chapel, PA. It was rumored that she read every book in the library at least once. She will be sorely missed. The family will receive guests at the Bock Funeral Home, Ltd. 1500 Mount Royal Blvd., Glenshaw on Wednesday, July 5th from 4pm to 7pm. A Memorial Mass will be held at the Sisters of St. Joseph Chapel, 1020 State St. in Baden at 11am on July 6th. In lieu of flowers, donations in Kay’s memory may be made to the Sister Donna Marie Memorial Fund with Boys Hope Girls Hope Pittsburgh: bhghpittsburgh.org/SisterDonna.
