Patricia Lewis Huss died at the age of 94 on May 18, 2023. Raised in Glenshaw, Pat was a graduate of Peabody High School and worked as an Executive Assistant for Allegheny Ludlum Steel Corporation. With a penchant for detail, Pat’s love for her job and independence in these early years was only matched by her love for the City of Pittsburgh. In 1958, Pat married Philip Huss Jr.---a partner in the law firm Maxwell and Huss and a Colonel in the Army Reserve. Pat was pre-deceased by her husband in 1983 and her sister, Ruth Blomgren, niece, Jodie Flynn, and nephew, Bob Blomgren.
With the love of her life, Pat raised four children: Pamela Stobierski (John) of South Deerfield, MA, Patty West (Ned) of Allison Park, PA, Penny Asherman (Dirk) of Cumberland, ME, and Philip Huss III (Chrissie) of Hailey, ID. Survived by these four children and their spouses, Pat was also “Nana” to ten grandchildren: Jack (Avery), Lauren, and Peter Stobierski; Charlie and Holly West; Brooke, Carly, and Eric Asherman, and Nils and Gretel Huss. She is also survived by a niece, Charlotte Michalski of Etters, PA and a nephew, Ric Blomgren of Prescott, AZ. Wife, Mother, and Nana, Pat loved her extended family.
Pat raised her four children and treasured her grandchildren on her own for many years. During these years, Pat continued to work as a real estate assistant for Northwood Realty in Fox Chapel. The house on the hill on Woodshire Drive was a gathering place for her family and friends, and the neighborhood provided a wonderful sense of community and sustained friendships. She loved to host parties for family, friends, and her children’s friends and her late night gatherings around the piano allowed her to sing—a passion throughout her life.
A member of the Fox Chapel Presbyterian Church, Pat had a deep faith that was a sustaining force in her life. But there was never a clear line between faith in God and her faith that the Steelers would make it to another Superbowl. There are fond memories of family vacations in Stone Harbor, NJ with beach days, family miniature golf games, and the requisite Springers’ ice cream cone to cap off the day. Pat’s love for travel brought her to Alaska, Hong Kong, Italy, Switzerland, England, and her beloved Bermuda where she honeymooned with her husband in 1958.
Raise a scotch in Pat’s honor, love your kids and grandkids, cheer for the Steelers, and know that her love for life and family lives on in all of us.
There will be a private memorial service for immediate family at the Fox Chapel Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in Pat Huss’s honor to the Fox Chapel Presbyterian Church at 384 Fox Chapel Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15238, https://www.fcpc.us/giving.
